Your Botany tutor
David Hawker brings a lifetime of experience to these inspirational botany holidays in Menorca.
David Hawker’s passion for botany and wild flowers has has taken him all over southern Europe and South Africa. He has led Natural History and botanical training courses in Southern Ireland, Scotland and England.
He has led a Botanical Expedition to Iceland for the British Schools Exploration Society. He is the Vice-County Recorder for Kirkcudbrightshire for the Botanical Society of the British Isles, whose records are the authority for all botanists and conservation organisations.
His long list of botanical projects includes much Rare Plant Survey work for Scottish Natural Heritage, travelling throughout Scotland from Shetland to the Outer Isles and down to the Borders in search of the seldom seen twinflower or the tiny bog orchid. He found both!
David Hawker and his wife Hilary run their own company – DH Ecology – surveying plants, birds and protected animals, and doing environmental impact assessments, habitat surveys, and site condition monitoring, with occasional geological photography. He has also worked for RSPB, Natural England, forestry and renewable energy companies.
David’s passion is to encourage a wider interest in botany and wild flowers – and to show people how to appreciate plants and flowers for their sheer beauty, as much as to categorise and label them. He is also an addicted bird watcher, so you may find yourselves looking skywards as well as down.
David just loves wild flowers and telling people more about them.
