Botany Holidays in Menorca
Indulge your passion for botany while enjoying a holiday of gentle exploration on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Menorca. This is a botany holiday for people who enjoy discovering and learning more about wild flowers, who appreciate them for their beauty and would like to know more about how to photograph them.

The uniquely preserved rural landscape and coastline of Menorca has created a habitat in which a huge variety of flowers and wildlife is flourishing. We will take you to some of the most fascinating and beautiful wildlife reserves, water meadows, sand dunes and natural gorges. There you can fully appreciate this diversity with the guidance of botanist David Hawker.
During our May 2010 Botany Holiday, we found 208 different species of wild flowers – 8 of those wild flowers were unique to the island of Menorca.
Botanist David Hawker will extend your knowledge of wild flowers way beyond the naming and labelling of species. He will show you how to better appreciate and record the beauty of them and the places in which they thrive.

UNESCO has declared Menorca a Biosphere Reserve – one of the places on our planet where an important natural and cultural heritage exists, and where the society has accepted economic development that is compatible with the conservation of nature. Here you will find many species of plant found nowhere else on earth.
The picture below shows the botanist David Hawker, cooling off after a morning of exploration with a group of Inspiration Holidays botanists in the S’Albufera des Grau National Park, Menorca, one of the unique habitats you will explore during your Botany Holiday in Menorca.

Photographing wild flowers in Menorca
On our easy-paced walks through this fascinating countryside, you may find and photograph Squirting Cucumber, Bellardia, Tassel Hyacinth, Rosy Garlic and Yellow Centaury to name just a few.
And while you are appreciating the flora, don’t forget to look up – Hoopoes, Booted Eagles, Egyptian Vultures, Scops owls and Red Kite are just some of the species that are seen regularly in the skies above the lovely Menorcan countryside. White Egrets are a common sight in the S’Albufera National Park – one of the unique environments you will explore during your Botany Holiday in Menorca. And of course there are the nightingales – you cannot fail to marvel at the sublime song as you are serenaded by two, three, or even more nightingales at the same time.
