2009 has been very busy year so far – and it’s nowhere near over yet! Apart from my regular weekly art classes I also teach residential art holidays and weekend art courses.
To put a special highlight on this year, in December I’ll be teaching on the fabulous cruise liner Queen Victoria. It will be a ten day voyage leaving from Southampton to Hamburg. We will then head up to Scavenger, Copenhagen, Oslo, Bruges and returning to Southampton by via Hamburg just in time for Christmas. So many beautiful scenes to see and paint!
I had my first experience teaching on a cruise liner last year when we sailed from Hamburg to New York aboard the Queen Mary 2. It was a great adventure and I met lots of interesting and talented artists and painters.
This time I’ll be aboard the Queen Victoria, and I’ll have only four art teaching days with a total of eight classes. That should leave me with time for just a bit of relaxation at the end of a busy year.
2010 is shaping up well with new Inspiration Holidays art holidays, in Kirkcudbright, Scotland’s Artists’ Town, in April – and then the art holiday in Menorca in May.
I’m really looking forward to teaching during both these art holidays. I now know a lot about Kirkcudbright and its famous ‘Glasgow Boys’, but I’ve never been to Menorca before – it sounds lovely and I know we’re going to find some wonderful subjects to paint. Organisers Philip and Norene Dunn will be giving me a guided tour of our painting locations before the artists arrive on the island, so I will be well prepared – with lots of painting ideas.
Although I work mostly in watercolours and pastel, recently I’ve been experimenting more with collage and acrylic work. It’s opened up some marvellous opportunities for artistic expression. I’ll try to show you some of the new work soon.
Enjoy your painting – Sue Ford
